I know, right? And worse still, the lazy media rely on Drudge to aggregate the "news" for them. (Test this: check Drudge, then watch a few broadcasts and witness the overlap.) And Drudge, too, is grasping at straws--more than during the Clinton impeachment even. Today, for a representative example, the "headline" all day has been "HIGH TIMES: OBAMA TO ISSUE NEW MARIJUANA POLICY," displayed in screaming green caps beneath a photo of Obama reading something (High Times magazine, surely?) as he stands in a small clutch of schoolchildren. The story? Legalization? Er, no. Another headline down the page: "READY TO REVOLT: Oath Keepers pledges to prevent dictatorship in United States," accompanied by a picture depicting Obama as a Maoist. I mean...? All this to say, hear! hear! Zillah.

Oh my crush just exploded ten-fold.

I thought I was weird for crushing on Zach during The Hangover, given what a weird, slighty unhygenic character he played. But seeing him lipsync Anita Baker??!! Am I dreaming? I am in love.

(And because you're you, I will admit that I used to come home from school in the 7th grade to an empty house...an empty house that was soon filled with the smooth jazz of Anita Baker, with whom I would sing along so loud and so continuously, I am still amazed neighbors never complained. And it was always Anita. Except when it was Whitney. Good times.)

The "one man, one woman" argument depends upon an implicit or explicit connection to reproduction and a series of bogus arguments about raising children in heterosexual households.

These arguments can never stand up in court because US law has long recognized what the conservative defense of heterosexual marriage always denies: that marriage has almost NOTHING to do with kids.

So the only real options, from a legal standpoint, are:
1) changing the law to let any couple marry.
2) changing the law to let ONLY people marry who can and commit to reproducing.

I don't think 2 is very likely, but it's the only shot the "marriage defenders" really have. Well, that and relying on hypocrisy in which the claims about children serve to mask a rather virulent homophobia....

I heard that Radiolab about Stravinsky when it first aired, and have been coming back to that particular idea pretty much every other day. My first reaction is that there was no music on earth any more that could make people riot in the streets after hearing it. My second reaction was, of course there is: Seattle police, e.g., are certain that it happens every Friday night at hip-hop clubs in Pioneer Square. My third reaction was that it's not an apt comparison--the point of Rite Of Spring was not that it incited the first listeners to riot, rather that it made them go FRICKIN' INSANE. My fourth reaction was, actually, it's a totally apt comparison: they were essentially fighting about whether this new paradigm of music was any good or not, and the music was so out there, and the reactions to it so extreme, that the dispute became violent. That's about where I am on that subject. I didn't actually have a real comment. I apologize to everybody else who has no idea what I'm talking about right now.
